Apartment Laura is one of 12 apartments in Villa Emilia, a 1920's villa situated right on a lovely stretch of beach on the Tyrrhenian Sea between the towns of Donoratico and San Vincenzo on the Tuscan coast. Access to the villa and its adjacent gardens is through an electronic gate. The villa was built by the noble Della Gherardesca family, whose descendants still live in the area, and many apartments are owned by Italian families from Milan, Florence, and Arezzo.
The apartment is on the top floor, and has a large terrace with breathtaking and unobstructed views of the Mediterranean. The island of Elba is usually easily visible, and there are stretches of the natural green beauty of the Tuscan coast. Guests have easy access to the beach below the villa, and do not have to pay daily fees to a beach cabaña company. The beach can be crowded in August, when many Italians are on vacation. The large terrace has lounge chairs and umbrellas, and is the focal point of daily living during the warm months.
The apartment is simply decorated, in a typical manner of a seaside dwelling. The furnishings are ample and comfortable, but are not elegant. The floors throughout the apartment are wood. The large kitchen has a table for dining. The living room is spacious. The master bedroom, with a queen-size bed, has a beautifully renovated ensuite bathroom with a shower. There are three twin bedrooms, one of which is quite spacious in size and has an ensuite bathroom with a shower. There is one other bathroom with a shower, and two smaller bathrooms with small bathtubs and hand showers (one of them is ensuite to a small twin bedroom). Four of the five bathrooms have been completely renovated in recent years. All of the bedrooms have doors to the terrace.
In addition to enjoying the beach, there are hiking and bike paths in the area. The apartment is a 10-15 minute drive to one of two towns on the coast, Donoratico and San Vincenzo. About a half hour away is the town of Bolgheri, in the heart of a major wine producing area. Etruscan ruins are nearby in Populonia or Volterra. Pisa and Lucca are under an hour's drive, and Florence and Siena can be reached in an hour and a half.
The apartment is equipped with air conditioning in every room, a dishwasher, washing machine, TV (Italian), DVD player, elevator, and independent central heating. Apartment Laura is on the top floor of the villa; there are 57 steps to the front door. There is an elevator solely for Apartment Laura.
In the months of June, July and August, only two-week rentals will be accepted. Air conditioning and heating costs are extra charges, based on consumption.
