Casa Scala is a very unique property. This four-story independent house is located on a small street in Trastevere, a traditional Roman neighborhood close to the historic city center and a 15-minute walk from the Vatican. Many restaurants and small stores are in the area, and major sightseeing attractions are an easy walk across the Tiber River.
The 300 year old house was renovated in 2001, when all modern conveniences were installed. It is furnished with interesting pieces from around the world which blend together into a tasteful and comfortable living room. Roman friezes line the walls, and lovely oriental artwork, porcelain, woodcarvings from Africa, and various area rugs can be found throughout the house. Many rooms have original wood beam ceilings.
The living room, kitchen/dining area, and powder room are on the second floor. The terracotta-floored living room has a fireplace. One of the many tall windows that light the room opens onto an outdoor terrace with views of the rooftops of Rome. The kitchen has windows facing the street, and is nicely decorated with local tiles and Italian pottery. It has ample workspace and new appliances. The dining area has a wood table seating six and a sideboard for serving and storage.
The bedrooms, with their wood beam ceilings, are located on the third floor. The double bedroom with a queen-size bed has a fireplace. Its bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub and shower attachment. A balcony is accessed from a tall window in the room and overlooks the terrace at the back of the house. The twin bedroom has windows facing the street and an ensuite bathroom with a shower.
Casa Scala is equipped with a washing machine, clothes dryer, two refrigerator/freezers, dishwasher, microwave, radio, Italian TV, telephone, air conditioning, and independent heating. The weekly price includes utilities except for heating and telephone.
