Set among the dunes facing the Mediterranean Sea, the two farmhouses are located in an area called the Maremma, a wide strip of fertile land that separates the sea from the mountains in the regions of Tuscany and northern Lazio. Rome can be reached by car in 1 ½ hours and there is train service in a nearby town. The houses are located on a 600 acre estate where olives, sunflowers, wheat, and melons are grown. They are well decorated, with colorful fabrics, high quality furniture, and appealing interior design touches. Both farmhouses have air conditioning.
Duna Grande is a welcoming farmhouse with a modern feel. The farmhouse is light and airy, particularly in the continuous living and dining room with its two separate seating areas and a fireplace. This room opens onto a terrace, which stretches the length of the farmhouse and is perfect for al fresco dining with a view of the sea. Beyond the well-equipped kitchen is a double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and its own access to the garden. The house is all on one floor with the exception of the master bedroom suite, which has its own private terrace with views of the sea.
A densely planted dune separates the two villas. Duna Piccola is also a very comfortable and tastefully decorated farmhouse. The combined living room and dining area with a fireplace, satellite TV, and stereo, has doors leading to the covered terrace facing the sea that runs the length of the room. The dining table is on one side of the room, with windows facing the mountains and a nearby pine forest. A door separates this from the two bedrooms with high, wood-beam ceilings. The bedrooms share a bathroom.
A swimming pool in the garden area of Duna Grande is for the use of Duna Grande guests. When the two houses are rented together for a group, both use the pool. Paths lead through the dunes to the sea, about 150 feet away. There are bicycles for guests to use.
Duna Grande and Duna Piccola are well located for touring. There are nearby medieval and cultural landmark towns for sightseeing, and Rome is 70 minutes away by train. Beaches and hot springs (at Saturnia) are also nearby, as are the towns of Porto Santo Stefano, Porto Ercole, and Capalbio.
The farmhouses are equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, iron and ironing board, CD-stereo, satellite TV, toaster, electric water kettle, electric coffee machine and air conditioning.
