Fattoria Casamora is a unique luxury retreat in Tuscany about an hour southeast of Florence. A famous Italian architect and his wife designed the transformation of a 17th century convent and farm structures on their family’s 2500- acre estate. Completed in 2006, the residential area of Fattoria Casamora is surrounded by extensive property consisting of olive groves, woodlands, streams and hiking areas that are accessible to guests. An award-winning extra virgin olive oil and vinsanto are produced at Fattoria Casamora, and guests can participate in the olive oil harvest in the fall.
The rental properties have been developed with exquisite taste and comfort, and Fattoria Casamora was featured in ForbesLife and other magazines. Antique and modern furniture have been combined with very lovely fabrics to create a most comfortable and inviting feel to the interiors. High quality appliances and fixtures are used throughout the living areas. The spaces are beautiful, interesting and functional. Every bedroom has its own bathroom. Accommodations can be made to provide double and twin beds. There are laundry facilities—washing machine and clothes dryer--in the properties.
The owners of Casamora designed the overall plan of the property so that it offers more than a group of rental buildings. Their concept is that guests should have the opportunity to recreate life in a typical Italian village. They created an outdoor square or “piazza” where guests can congregate, if they wish, as in the towns of Italy. There are also entertainment and leisure facilities provided, including a library with Internet access and a theater. These provide guests with the opportunity to meet, enjoy a cultural life and relax. There is an outdoor sports area with soccer facilities, a common swimming pool for the three apartments and two villas, and a children’s playground set against the backdrop of the Pratomagno mountains. This approach also makes Fattoria Casamora a wonderful place to hold weddings and conferences for larger groups. Breakfast service can be purchased in the dining room facing the courtyard, light lunch can sometimes be served at the pool (maximum 8 people), and a cook can be arranged for other meals in the Casamora restaurant or in the villas and apartments at an extra cost. Cooking lessons can be arranged.
The location of Fattoria Casamora affords opportunities for day trips to other areas of Tuscany and Umbria. Regular train service to Florence in less than half an hour is available about a 10 minute drive from the estate.
The Villas:
Le Magnolie (sleeps 8 or 12) has its own private garden and swimming pool. The antique furniture and family pictures that decorate the inside give it much charm. On the first floor is the main entrance, large sitting room with a fireplace, dining room, kitchen, twin bedroom and bathroom. A stone staircase leads to the second floor and three double bedrooms facing onto the garden. Each room has a private bathroom. Outside, a Tuscan portico with wooden trusses, giving the atmosphere of ancient countryside springs, surrounds the private swimming pool. The villa has central heating and can be lived in year-round. For groups of 12, two of the suites connecting to the villa can be added. Rentals for 12 are on special request, as the kitchen facility is small for 12.
La Leccina (sleeps 6) is named for a group of oaks that shade the private garden of this stone and brick house. The interior of the villa makes it an inviting place to stay. The master double bedroom on the first floor has an ensuite bathroom and faces a gallery overlooking the private garden and large kitchen. A double bedroom and a twin bedroom, each with its own bathroom, are also located on the first floor. An interior staircase leads to the spacious upstairs living room with a fireplace. Doors lead to an open terrace overlooking the Pratomagno Mountains and the countryside. There is private parking and an extensive, well-designed garden.
La Nocciolina (sleeps 4) is on the edge of the village square. It is made of stone and brick, dominated by a large walnut tree shading the outdoor terrace. The antique furniture, family pictures, and modern designer pieces that furnish the house are all designed for the maximum comfort of guests. The villa’s two terraces overlook the square and provide a wonderful scenic view of the Pratomagno Mountains. On the first floor are the entrance and two double bedrooms with private bathrooms. The second floor is accessible from an outside staircase or from inside. The kitchen with a fireplace, living room, dining room and one of the terraces are all on the second floor. There is private parking.
The three apartments can be rented together as a small "Borgo," and accommodate 20 people.
The Apartments:
L’Ulivo (sleeps 6) is secluded from the village square by a stone wall, wooden truss, and a wrought iron gate. The first floor entrance opens up onto three bedrooms with private bathrooms, one with both a shower and a bathtub. As in traditional Tuscan country houses, an external brick staircase connects the two floors. The second floor is also accessible from an indoor staircase, and has a small sitting room, living room with a fireplace, terrace, and kitchen with a small dining area. The apartment has an outdoor terrace with a private garden. A pergola on the second floor, facing the piazza, creates a very nice space for lunch and dinner meals.
Il Noce (sleeps 8) is part of one of the oldest houses of the village of the Fattoria, and has a covered loggia with columns facing the square. The first floor is centered around a large sitting room with a very old fireplace, which connects to the large kitchen with a fireplace and a double bedroom and bathroom. A grey stone staircase leads to the second floor with three double bedrooms and private bathrooms; one room has its own terrace. The apartment has central heating, making it available year-round.
I Meli (sleeps 6) is connected to the communal garden and swimming pool by a pedestrian stone bridge leading to its second floor living room. The second floor also has a small sitting room, large kitchen with a fireplace, dining room, and double bedroom with a bathroom and a terrace. A grey stone staircase leads to the first floor and the entrance to the apartment, a second living room and two twin bedrooms with private bathrooms. The apartment has a garden.
Suites Le Dame:
Donna Olimpia, Donna Maria, Donna Luisa, and Donna Matilde (each sleeps 2) are each named in honor of the major women in the family history of Casamora. The four suites are situated around a courtyard, near the library and theater. Paintings and antique furniture decorate the suites, which are ideal for accommodating additional guests in the rental properties. The suites are set up as one area providing the functions of a bedroom, living room, and bathroom. Each has air conditioning, a mini bar, and a safe. Breakfast in the dining room is included.
