La Barchessa is an apartment in a centuries-old building on the grounds of an agricultural estate. The building in which it is located used to be the stables and granary of the estate. Located on the edge of the town of Este, about an hour by car from Venice, the estate has belonged to the Albrizzi family, one of Italy's distinguished families, for several generations. The family home on the estate grounds, known as Villa Albrizzi, is a majestic property that is offered for rent from June to the end of September.
In 2009, the villa owners restored former staff quarters in this estate out-building into a charming and comfortable apartment for six people. La Barchessa is available for rent on its own from October until mid-May, and is equipped with both heating and air conditioning for such rentals. In the summer period, when the villa is rented, the apartment is not available for a separate rental. However, if those renting Villa Albrizzi have 20 people in their group, La Barchessa can also be rented to accommodate additional people as the villa has a maximum capacity of 15. Those staying at La Barchessa in this situation are able to use all of the villa's facilities and its swimming pool.
La Barchessa is on the second floor (no elevator) of the estate out-building, which is across the courtyard from the main villa. From the entrance hall, a newly restored fully equipped kitchen is on the right as one enters the apartment. In addition to all modern equipment, there is a table for eating and food preparation. Next to the kitchen is a cozy dining room.
Farther down the entrance hall are two sitting areas. There is a large living room that has comfortable couches and a view of the garden. Next to this room is a double bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom with a bathtub. WI-FI Internet access is available in the living room and double bedroom.
On the other side of the living room is a Study with a TV that has satellite reception and a lovely view of the garden as well. There are two other bedrooms on this side of the apartment. Each of them can either be a double or a twin bedroom, and each has its own ensuite bathroom. All the bathrooms have bathtubs and hand-held shower attachments.
The apartment gets a lot of light in the bedrooms and sitting rooms from the windows facing the garden. The furnishings are comfortable, and also include some family antique furniture and artwork on the walls. La Barchessa is equipped with air conditioning in the bedrooms and study, telephone upon request, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, satellite TV, WI-FI Internet access, and independent heating. Two hours of cleaning per day is included in the rental price. A cook is available for an extra charge.
Guests at La Barchessa can take walks in the enormous 19th century park, which was designed to be similar to the romantic gardens built in Great Britain. There are paths for walking, statuary, a climbing fortress for children, grassy areas, and many trees. There is also an all-weather tennis court, and an area for parking.
The estate is just on the edge of the small town of Este, and guests can easily walk into the town center. Este offers an excellent location for touring Venice, which can easily be reached by train or bus. Venice airport is about 30 miles from Este. Other sights of the area for day trips are the historic cities of Padua, Vicenza, Ferrara, and Verona. Many of the famous villas designed by Palladio are also within easy reach, and there is a famous spa at Abano, not far away. There are three 18 -hole golf courses in the vicinity.
