Podere Crognole is a 15th century stone house located in the heart of the Chianti area of Tuscany. It is partially hidden among trees and surrounded by olive groves on a piece of land that gently rolls down to the bottom of a valley.
This traditional farmhouse was restored in 2002, but the original terracotta floors, wood beam ceilings and traditional fireplaces were maintained. The comfortable furnishings include antiques and traditional Tuscan materials. The architecture, with stone walls and wood ceilings, give the farmhouse a cozy, rustic feel.
A typical outside staircase leads to the second floor, where most of the rooms are located. The living room has a large, open fireplace and comfortable seating. Next to it is a kitchen with modern appliances and an original 15-foot wide fireplace that dominates the room. Two of the bedrooms are on this floor, one with an ensuite bathroom and the other has a bathroom next to it. Both double bedrooms can be made into twin bedrooms. The third bedroom, which can also be a double or twin, is on the first floor and has a separate entrance that cannot be reached by an internal staircase. This large bedroom has its own bathroom.
The housekeepers, a couple, live in a separate area on the first floor. They work on the owner's wine estate and are only on the property in the evening or on weekends. There is no maid service included in the weekly price, but the housekeeper is available to do cleaning and laundry for an extra charge. The farmhouse is equipped with a telephone, satellite TV, washing machine, dishwasher, American coffee maker, window screens, barbeque, and independent heating.
Podere Crognole is located about 2.5 miles from the excellent shopping, banks, restaurants, and bars of Radda in Chianti. Florence is about 45 minutes away, and Siena is about a 30-35 minute drive. Guests can also enjoy wine tours at nearby Castello d'Alba. |
