The farmhouse Tafania lies in the valley below the village of Barberino Val D’Elsa, midway between Florence and Siena. It is on top of a small hill, overlooking the valley in three directions, amidst vineyards and olive groves.
Tafania is owned by a distinguished Italian family, and was recently restored with great care. The ground floor, which used to be the stables and storerooms, has now become a breakfast room, a summer kitchen, and a large playroom for children which all open up onto the “morning terrace.” Poplar trees flank this terrace, so it is a wonderful place for guests to have breakfast. The loggia is furnished as a summer living room.
The upstairs floor has a large living room and country kitchen with fireplace that is perfect for gatherings with family or friends. Upon request, a cook can come to the house to prepare a meal with Tuscan specialties.
One twin bedroom is in a tower room, a typical feature of Tuscan farmhouses. They are called “piccionaia” in Italian, which means “dove tower.”
The house is equipped with telephone, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, CD-stereo, screens in all windows, portable fans in all bedrooms and central heating. Some maid service is included, and a cook is available for an additional cost.
